The language of Germany is German. Most Germans have studied either English or French before they leave secondary school. Berliners, on the other hand, have studied either English or Russian, depending on where they grew up. Since the Wall fell, English has become required study in every school. Expect some difficulty speaking to older Berliners, though most know enough English or French to give directions to the park or museum. As Berlin prepares to become the capital, more and more signs in the city have been written in both German and English.
